How do you implement the NETS for Students in Grades 9-12? Select "Edit This Page" to share ideas, questions or lesson plans:

Hello. I currently am teaching high school algebra and geometry to special education students. Teaching my students is a challenge in itself, but I have fun doing so. The main concern is the retention level. My students need various methods of receiving a concept in order to maintain the information. I use the LCD projector, computer software, computer assessment tools, hands-on activities and bi-weekly refresher question sheets. The NETS helps me to be mindful of what is expected of all students, even my special education students.

Hi Martha,
It's your JHU cohort buddy, Lisa.
My work goal this year was to align NET-S with my curriculum. I began the year by introducing my students to Google Docs. I had the students communicate for their group projects and include me so I could see the revisions. When we watched an Educational video on the Mayas, I asked them to send 1 comment and post 1 question to their group. Knowing that they would be accountable (in written fomat) for their work, they were alert and attentive. The converastion in class post google docs was the BEST I have had in years.
I then showed them how to use Zoho show. I stressed the importace of collaboration without leaving your home...they liked that idea!
With my upper level AP class and my level I class, I have been blogging and using Web 2.0 tools to enhance my curriculum. To date we have used Flikcr to create Magazine Covers, Gaggle for podcasts, Animoto and recently Bubbl.Us.
Would you like me to upload a document as an example?

Yes, Lisa, we'd like to see your document and even your lesson plan. To submit a document, use the Insert Images and Files icon on the editor toolbar.

Hi Martha-- I am at your NETS Innovate as You Implemented Session in the NETS Connect Lounge right now :) I am going to fill out the LESSON PLAN TEMPLATES you have provided for us-- what a tremendous resource! I will get to work-- I will copy and paste my Animoto Lesson Plan.

Developing a Fundamental Understanding of Integers (grade 9 - Algebra)

As a review of the properties for basic operations with integers, I will have my algebra I students first create a storyboard (using paper or powerpoint) to write a cartoon incompassing one of the operations. These will be checked for accuracy and then the students will create a screencast that teaches the operation. I will, then, allow the students to work with an elementary teacher to share their screencast to the younger students. I am exploring resources for simple animations (which should excite the students). My goal is for these students to gain a firm understanding of these operations so they will be able to "know" what the answers should be without going back to the "rules" each time.

Developing a Digital Age Communication Presentation

This cross-curricular project is a series of lessons designed to scaffold the development of interactive multimedia presentations. The project attempts to find a balance between technology and content, and how to effectively communicate those to an audience.
